Albano is a renowned veterinary medicine competency training center and referral hospital for clinics and veterinarians throughout Sweden and even in the Nordics. AniCura’s ambition is to provide the highest medical quality available. Our main focus is always that we do what is best for the patient. Quality of life for our patients is of uttermost importance. We are now looking to expand our Oncology department with a European Board-Certified Specialist within Oncology.
The scope of the role is to continue to build and develop our Oncology department, one of the busiest in Sweden. As a Diplomate we encourage you to start a residency program and to do research in your area of interest, however its not a requirement. There are opportunities to do research together with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. AniCura also provides the possibility to get funding for research through its research fund.
Education, training and development of less experienced (early talent) veterinarians who are now training in Oncology with the ESAVS program is very important. Collaboration with other clinics will also be encouraged.
The Oncology department
We were, until recently, the only oncology unit in the greater Stockholm area. We receive a large number of referrals from the greater Stockholm area but also from other parts of Sweden (and Nordics) as well. We offer appointments 4-5 days per week, approximately 40 per week. We are able to perform all surgical procedures on tumours.
The head of Oncology is a Swedish specialist in Oncology (one of three only in Sweden). She is currently training three other veterinarians to become specialists. Two of them are currently doing their education also through ESAVS. The team also consists of two dedicated Oncology nurses.
Within the Oncology department we discuss cases every week, the latest literature, journals and findings. There is an extensive focus on training and developing the more inexperienced veterinarians at the unit but also educating the other veterinarians at our hospital and other AniCura hospitals in the Stockholm area. We give seminars and other speaking events.
We attend ESVONC, VCS and other oncology meetings and then share their findings to the others within the unit and the hospital.
The Diplomate community at Albano and at AniCura
Diplomates within Cardiology, Surgery, Neurology and Dermatology. In addition, we also have specialized, to national level, veterinarians within different areas. Since we have several Diplomates in different types of areas at Albano, we have an advanced team and we work close together. At AniCura we have around 150 Diplomates across our markets.
