Full/ Part time Clinician or Lecturer in Companion Animal Internal Medicine

The Position

You will be required to:

  • Provide direct patient care for animals presented to the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, participate in the Small Animal Internal Medicine service, including appointment fo referral and second opinion cases, cooperate with other clinical faculty in the clinical and hospital practice.
  • Participate fully in undergraduate (clinical) teaching and in postgraduate (interns and residents) training. 

The successful applicant will be able to choose between full or part time (at least 1 day per week), the clinical service is negotiable and will depend on the successful candidate’s interests and availability. In case of a full time job, the candidate is expected to participate in the supervision of off-hours care to animals hospitalized within the Internal Medicine service (mainly advices through phone call during evenings and week-ends, about 1 week per month). 

The position offers opportunities to participate to or develop collaborative research activities if desired. Depending upon experience, qualifications, and interest, medium-term opportunities for career progression to assistant professor/ professor position will be possible. 

Professional rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

You will be based at the veterinary campus at Marcy l’Etoile which is located in the surburban area of the beautiful city of Lyon with advantages of both access to a large city center with a great historical and gastronomic culture and close proximity to the contryside.
 
The Small Animal Teaching Hospital provide a complete range of clinical services to its patients through a full complement of on-site diagnostic and medical support equipment that includes a brand new and extensive array of endoscopic equipment (Olympus Digital Endoscopy System with flexible and rigid scopes including uretroscope), brand new in-house 1.5T MRI and 64 slice CT, abdominal and cardiac ultrasound scanners, digital radiography, fluoroscopy, cystomanometry and urethral profilometry, electromyography, a well developped emergency and intensive care unit offering dialysis, mechical ventilation and blood transfusion.
 
You will joing our Medicine service that currently include three internal medicine specialists (2 diplomates ECVIM-CA, 1 diplomate from the French specialization system DESV), 2 ECVIM-CA internal medicine residents, 2 onclology specialists (dip ECVIM-CA), 2 ECVIM-CA oncology residents, 1 part-time cardiology specialist (dip DESV cardiology) and a general practitionner.

Joining our team, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with a very large panel of diplomates of other specialities including Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency and Critical Care, Dermatology, Surgery, Reproduction, Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Clinical Pathology, Pathology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Parasitology), a neurologist, a team of interns and dedicated nurses.


Candidate Requirements

Qualifications:

  • DVM degree
  • Specialists in Small Animal Internal Medicine (diplomate ECVIM-CA, ACVIM, or DESV) or clinician who have successfully completed a residency training program accredited by the ECVIM or the ACVIM will be priviledged but non specialist-candidate who would also be considered providing they have sufficient experience within the area of Small Animal Internal Medicine.

Other candidate requirements:

  • Commitment to undergraduate teaching and learning
  • Commitment to supervision of postgraduate students
  • Commitment to providing the highest level of patient care, including collaboration with referring physicians
  • Ability to undertake collaborative work in a team setting
  • Good work ethic
  • Sound knowledge and conversation skills in French. Candidates that have only basic knonwledege of the France language but who are willing to improve their skills will be considered
